Workers in fully automatable jobs were more than three times less likely to have participated in on-the-job training, over a 12-month period, than workers in non-automatable jobs. Those most at risk were also less likely to participate in formal education or distance learning.

The OECD underlined the need to help young people obtain work experience while studying, and highlighted the importance of retraining and social protection for those who were at risk of seeing their job restructured or significantly downsized.

“In parallel, the large share of workers whose jobs are likely to change quite significantly as a result of automation calls for countries to strengthen their adult learning policies to prepare their workforce for the changes in job requirements they are likely to face,” the report said.

guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010

Published via the Guardian News Feed plugin for WordPress.

{"facebook_10220698900476085_349663338397715":"","twitter_1370559253_1370559253":"
[21
61,24,530,532,533,64,5,531,431,177,63,105
post-20289","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","tag-article","tag-business","tag-economics","tag-global-economy","tag-larry-elliott","tag-main-section","tag-news","tag-oecd","tag-robots","tag-technology","tag-the-guardian","tag-uk-business
["GET
