Dragon Boat Racing team building event

Dragon boat racing is a great way to motivate staff and build high performing teams. MBNL a joint venture company owned by UK mobile networks operators EE and Three have recently organised a staff sports day.

This event was held at Bisham Abbey in Marlow and is ideally located next to the Thames River where dragon boat races can be held.

The event organisers split  the staff into 8 teams with 14 to 16 people in each team. Two teams at a time were taken out to the dragon boats and briefed on safety, seating arrangements and rowing techniques.

Each team got a coach and went out for an initial practice run before lining up with the opposition to race. The race was held up stream and lasted for 180 metres. There was also a drummer on the boat. Our coach told us it was all about timing and synchronisation that was the difference between winning or losing teams.

After the first heat the fastest two teams went for a final race to decide the Sports day winners.The two teams battled it out and the finish was very close but one team had to win. It was a great success and staff at the event all really enjoyed the day.
